After The Rain

Painting this in an extremely free and expressive manner, it is a response to a friend’s wild area of garden, the exuberant growth and spectacular colours shine through all the variety of mark making techniques.
The Grand Harbour
Strategically one of the most important European harbours in history, the Grand Harbour is picturesque and really fascinating in its spectacular history. This painting was painted from sketches and a photograph taken at dawn. I have deliberately not put in too many details in order to emphasize the grandeur of the moment, leaving as much as possible to the imagination.
Maltese Habour at Dusk
A very atmospheric and romantic view of a Maltese harbour scene, this is based loosely on the Gozitan harbour at Mgarr. I have used a limited palette and techniques that the great Turner himself used with mane layers of glazing and turbid paintwork.
Bridge of Sighs
Seen from a very unusual perspective this is a completely unique ‘take’ on the Bridge of Sighs! It has an emotional response to the bridge and was painted in response to paintings by the famous Russian artist Kokoshka of the River Thames.
