Rock After Piper
I cannot begin to describe the amount of fun I had whilst painting this picture after Piper! Painted on an extremely rough surface, it was one of those paintings that almost painted itself, and I have the intention to paint more in a similar style using the Maltese rocks as inspiration.
Painting this in an extremely free and expressive manner, it is a response to a friend’s wild area of garden, the exuberant growth and spectacular colours shine through all the variety of mark making techniques.
The Grand Harbour
Strategically one of the most important European harbours in history, the Grand Harbour is picturesque and really fascinating in its spectacular history. This painting was painted from sketches and a photograph taken at dawn. I have deliberately not put in too many details in order to emphasize the grandeur of the moment, leaving as much as possible to the imagination.
Maltese Habour at Dusk
A very atmospheric and romantic view of a Maltese harbour scene, this is based loosely on the Gozitan harbour at Mgarr. I have used a limited palette and techniques that the great Turner himself used with mane layers of glazing and turbid paintwork.
