Up The Garden Path
Even after so many years of painting it never ceases to amaze me how many colours I can get from 4 or 5 tubes of paint.40 shades of green went into this one, with the washing dancing on the line providing a vivid contrast, a really amusing painting, a talking point for your wall.
This is how I imagined the port of Cirkewwa would have looked over 100 years ago. The subtle tones within the sky, echoed in the calm water were painted using a limited pallet and many many layers of glazing. I fell in love with Russian literature years ago at uni, quickly followed by a deep appreciation of Russian artwork. I have made it my business to study their advanced techniques in detail.this piece is based on a study of the work of Sudkovskiy.
Transparent Waters Xwejni Bay
The beautiful transparent waters of the Maltese Islands never fails to attract attention and utter amazement. I have painted plein air here for over 20 years. This lovely painting uses a very limited palette, by limiting my palette I achieve a harmonious peaceful painting. The rocks in the foreground lead the eye to the main focal point of the painting, the beautiful weathered and etched rock in the distance, so indicative of these Islands and a well known landmark on the north coast of Gozo.
