This painting pays great homage to one of my favourite heroes, JMW Turner. It is of course very similar to his famous painting “Morning Star”. Many layers of glazed paint give this its ethereal quality, I simply love painting in this manner if I’m painting in my studio.
Sail boats at rest in the harbour. An atmospheric evening scene of peace and tranquility, with one simple boat under sail but about to moor up for a quiet evening drink with fellow sailors. A muted pallette of colours plus just one guest artist, Cadmium Orange, to add the punch line, echoed in the 2nd buoy and touches in some of the cabins around the harbour
Muted and many layered this was an absolute joy to paint. I study the sunsets over the sea outside our flat with the lighthouse in the foreground and learn much from my studies. This painting is using techniques used by Turner and is after a painting by Sapiro who also uses similar techniques.
